can’t blame these kiddies trying to find their hustle during the lockout. not that they need any help, but i’d like to beeee their friend, more for moral support.
LOCKOUT PROFESSIONALS - Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, Adrian Peterson, & Ron Artest (by ESPN)

even better.
stealth.
because of a special dignitary in town (the one who requires blockades for that person to get around town), traffic out of westwood was ridiculous.
of course yesterday was the day i returned to the bus for my commute. i noticed that not one big blue bus had passed by the stop on wilshire and westwood, so i thought i’ll just walk and get some exercise while i wait for the bus, and i’ll catch it at a stop before santa monica.
i look back at rochester: no bus, walk on. i look back at ohio: no bus, walk on. i look back at massachusetts: no bus, walk on. and i’m at santa monica: the 1 line arrives, but it’s of no use to me. i keep walking.
but i wasn’t the only one. a heck of a lot of people were walking down westwood. i did make some friends: dawn and eric. and, together, we continue the journey. the 8 passes by at olympic, which i could take to national, but it is too much like sardines in there and traffic isn’t moving much faster. i have good company and a nice breeze. we keep going.
by this time, i’ve worked a sweat; i could use a little treat. so many places to eat: poquito mas, california chicken cafe, pittfire pizza, juniors. but, i resist. although the smells were tempting, i didn’t want to lose time going into a store, order food, wait for it, eat a little, and lug extra stuff on my journey home. and all the while i had this internal conflict of “to get food or not,” we make it to westside pavillion on pico, but this is where we split our separate ways, and i’m all by my lonesome. i stand at the stop for a while, but i’m feeling motivated to just walk all the way. as i walk away from the stop, i start singing saadiq’s “keep marching.”
i’m the only one left walking, but what the heck. i’m getting exercise, activating my vitamin D, and reminiscing the good ol’ times. times i’ve walked around in the city just to hang and pass time. times when i walked home from school with my grandpa or grandma. times we walked to the park for tennis or swimming class. times when people would just travel on foot (even just in the 90s). times have definitely changed. for better or for worse; change is inevitable.
i make it to national, watching two more full buses pass. i’ve walked this far, what’s another mile. while i started a little frustrated with the traffic, i appreciated the time i spent in the open air, getting some fitness in, meeting people, and having some reflection time. thanks, mr. president. next time, i’d like a warning. becuase i would walk 500 more. well, i’d probably draw the line to 10.
(here’s a map to help track my journey.)
awesome!
